Loki Memoirs 45

In due time, I continued to assess my brother's circumstance over the next few days, taking little sleep or nourishment for myself.  I took in every characteristic of himself, reading into what he may have been attacking at the time of his petrifaction.  He was looking up, which does not explain why his body was attacking low.  It did not make sense. Weeks had started to pass when I started to write long hours every day, writing my findings and trying to piece everything together.  Many times I would fall asleep on Thor's desk quill in hand, often mother had placed a blanket over me to keep me warm while I slept.  It was one day that I stood from Thor's desk and looked at him from a distance.  I then put myself in his position and thought about what would he be attacking that was taller than himself.  Unless... Things started to click and a ran to a pile of books I had abandoned earlier in my research.  I pulled out a wide book with a fraying spine and quickly scanned its pages.  The ancient text was difficult to decipher in my tired state but the word finally came to me, basilisk.  That was it!  It makes complete sense now. I brought the book with me to the desk and began to write my notes down adding onto my list.  I read more into the book and did not understand how Thor could be alive.  The glare of a basilisk was to kill not petrify, I thought more about it.  He was looking up, not where he was swinging, perhaps Thor managed to see it's reflection instead of it's real gaze.  It would make sense and more likely for this to happen. I continued to think things over, how was I going to reverse this?  This was no curse, normal magic was not going to fix this.  Only a strong anti-hex would work but it would need to be learned well and cast upon Thor with care.  It could be devastating to him if cast incorrectly, as mother had said. I spent days working on the anti-hex thinking of how to judge the strength of the petrifaction.  Mother would come in and help me put together the appropriate elements. "It is very strong Loki, do you think you can break it?" she had asked me one day while I continued to write. "I am going to give it my best, I have never had to deal with a basilisk victim before," I stood rubbing my eyes exhausted. "You need rest my son.  I ask that you rest," she begged of me, coming to my side and placing her hand on my back.  I did not want to rest right now, I was coming close to finishing the requirements for the cure.   "I am so close mother...soon I will be able to break him of his bonds, but I suppose you are right.  I will not be able to perform the anti-hex if I do not rest.  I walked over to Thor's bed stretching from sitting too long. I lay down and rest my head upon his pillow, it smelled of him and I smiled.  Rolling onto my side, I nuzzled the fabric and took his scent in.  I longed for him, I wanted to feel him at my side.  I wanted to rest beside him but I would have to be patient.  Soon, I kept telling myself as sleep took me, soon...
