Loki Memoirs 12

    Evening,

I opened my eyes feeling the weight shift where I lay.  Thor had gotten up and was sitting on the side edge of my bed.

"Thor?" I questioned if he heard myself.

"Ah, brother.  It seems as though you have slept in today.  You look well rested for once," he smiled with approval.  I sat up as well looking at him, alert.  Realizing he was keeping himself turned away.

I cut straight to the chase so he didn't have a chance to lie to me, "Why were you sleeping next to me last night?" I rubbed my left eye and yawned.

"I had just gotten here to see you, I was not here all night," he responded.  My gods he was a terrible liar...

"You know you cannot lie to me Thor, just tell me why...besides I did not dream that you were here.  I saw you with my own two eyes," I tilted my head to side waiting for an answer.

He looked to my door as if he wished for it to be open so he could run.  He knew better though than to do something this out of character and just brush it off.  "I...I had tried to sleep in my own bed last night..." he started.

"And?" I pushed him a little.

"I had a night fright and I was afraid it had become real..." he looked to the floor, folding his hands together in his lap.  He dare not look up to me.

"So you come into my room and sleep in my bed?" I tried to end his story for him.

"It is not as easy as you think, brother...It felt far too real," he paused.  " We used to sleep in the same bed as children, how is it different now?" he asked turning now.  I could see the darkness in his eyes.  Something had defiantly shaken him.

"It is different now, we are grown.  You know that as well as I do.  Tell me, what was this fright about?" I had laid a hand on his forearm.

"I wish not to talk about it," he spoke gravelly and stood from the bed, making his way to my door.  I waved my hand on the door handle, locking it solidly.

"I want to hear brother, maybe I could help.  I have to repay you the favor of taking care of me while ill," I tried to make him warm up to the idea of telling me.

"No," he spoke sternly.  He then pushed on the door causing the hinges the creak as they stressed to break.

"Thor!  Don't break my door!" I scolded him, getting up and pulling him back to avoid the inevitable.  "What is the matter with you?  I've not seen you act this way before..." I looked him in the face, searching for what was bothering him so.  He looked away with eyes closed.

"Tell me..." I whispered.  "I will not tell anyone...you know I will not," I caught his eyes and stared into them.   He sighed, pulling away from me back to my bed.  He sat down and sighed again.

"Just let me leave, please..." he asked nicely.

I came over to him, kneeling down next to him looking up into his eyes.  "I will let you leave, but I'm here if you need to talk.  Not talking about it will only make it happen again..." I put that into his mind to think about.  It worked because before he was able to put his hand on the handle he turned back toward me.  I smiled on the inside.

"It was about you..." he murmured softly, looking at the floor.  "You had died..."  I stayed quiet realizing now why he was in my bed last night.  He had even wrapped his arms around me to ensure I wasn't going anywhere.

"Thor...I am not going anywhere, you know this," I told him grabbing hold of his hand and squeezing it slightly.  "We are gods, we are not going anywhere... foolishness," I had assured him.

"But...it was different brother.  We were not here in Asgard, we were in Jutonheim, a frost giant had drained your power and killed you while you were weak..."  I could tell he just needed to let his thoughts out.

"Don't worry about me brother, as long as I remain in your guard, I shall be fine.  The likelihood of me dying is minute," I tried my best to console him.  "Besides, it is forbidden to go to Jutonheim, why would I have reason to go there?"

"I guess...you are right.  Maybe the stress as of late has gotten to me," he relaxed a bit.

"Good, now I do not need you coming back into my chambers in the middle of the night...So if there is anything else you tell me now," I told him and he shook his head.

"No, that is all..." he now stood to leave and I stood with him.

"Take care Thor," I told him as he left.  The door clicked closed and I had gone back to my bed, sitting upon it.  Why was Thor having this night fright, he had not had one since he was but a child.  I mentally grabbed a book from my shelf and levitated it to where I sat.  I read through it to try to ease my mind as well of the situation.  Could it be a warning?
